What do you need to connect the washing machine to the water supply, sewerage, and network? Fortunately, in most cases, you can easily do it without the help of a wizard, because connecting the washing machine yourself is quite simple.
Even though the market offers a huge number of models, different in price and functionality, the general principles are the same for everyone. Therefore, for example, connecting an LG washing machine will not be radically different from connecting an Electrolux washing machine.
Choosing a place to install the washing machine
To begin with, it is important to determine the location of the machine. There are two main options – in the kitchen under the countertop or in the bathroom.
In older houses with a small bathroom or combined bathroom, it is preferable to install a washing machine in the kitchen. But if you bought a top-loading model, which is usually smaller in size, it should have enough room and a bathroom.
Some built-in washing machines require placement in a special niche in the kitchen furniture. There are also extraordinary installation solutions, for example, in a spacious hallway, to save space in a small kitchen or bathroom. However, this is possible only if there is access to all communications.
Connecting the washing machine to the mains
A mains-powered washing machine in constant contact with water is a potentially hazardous device. That is why to avoid electric shock, experts advise connecting it not to an ordinary outlet, but a special, three-pin with grounding.
Because the water for washing is heated by a powerful heating element, it is recommended to connect the washing machine to separate wiring from the electrical panel. However, be sure to consult a specialist before connecting.
Connecting the washing machine to the water supply
Each model is equipped with a water inlet hose for connection to a standard ¾ ”connection. If you have planned to install and connect the washing machine for a long time and have already made special water outlets for the water supply hose in advance, then the procedure will take a few minutes. Just tightly connect the hose to the ends of the pipes, not forgetting, of course, about the rubber sealing gaskets.
If there are no special bends, you will still cope with the task quite quickly using one of the proposed options.
One way is to use a compression sleeve. If you have a metal pipeline, then you need to buy a special coupling, consisting of two halves, install it in the right place on the pipe on a rubber seal and fasten it with bolts. After that, drill a hole for the water supply directly through the coupling. Then fix the tap-adapter on the coupling and connect the water supply hose of the washing machine to it.
Replaced metal pipes with plastic
If you have already replaced metal pipes with plastic ones, then you need a special tee – fitting. The sequence of actions is as follows – in the right place you should cut a piece of pipe of the required width, fix the fitting in the resulting opening, and screw the hose to it for water supply.
One of the easiest ways to connect a washing machine in the kitchen and bathroom is to a faucet, which has a dedicated hose connection for the washing machine. In this case, the whole process will take less than a minute. If you have an ordinary mixer, you can simply remove the spout for the duration of the wash and screw the hose in its place. Their diameters match perfectly, so connecting the washing machine to the mixer will be simple and pretty quick.
Connecting a washing machine in the country
What to do if there is no centralized water supply in the room where the washing machine is located? It turns out that this is not a problem either, and it is in your power to do everything yourself. To do this, you only need a tank of the required volume, which must be installed at least 1 m above the washing machine. When choosing a container, keep in mind that depending on the maximum load of the tank and the washing mode, from 40 to 80 liters of water is used in one cycle. The supply hose will need to be connected to the lower outlet in the tank, and the fluid pressure in this case will be sufficient for the normal operation of the washing machine. A more expensive option is to buy a pump that will provide the required head.
The easiest way to drain dirty water after washing is to use a special plastic hook that allows the end of the drain hose to be attached to the side of the bathroom or toilet. But the length of the hose is not always enough for this method, with high pressure, the hook may come off, and the bath will have to be washed after washing. Therefore, it is better to provide a drain directly into the sewer through a pipe cut into the pipe. In this case, the free end of the drain hose is fixed with a corrugated rubber sleeve in the drain hole.
